Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a mid-level environmental scientist IV for employment to be a task leader for a variety of military environmental projects (i.e., Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Actions) within the Federal sector. The successful candidate will have at a minimum a BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology with a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects.
The candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work may be required including the oversight of subcontractors.
Part of the responsibilities of the role will be:
Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.
Conducts research and does investigation work as required.
Plans and organizes project studies.
Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or Geology & (6+) six years of experience
Valid driver’s license.
US Citizen, for access to DoD project sites
Ability to travel at least 10% of the time
Must successfully pass preemployment background check, motor vehicle records check and any pre-employment drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to successfully obtain a DBIDs pass to gain access to any required federal military installation site locations
Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related discipline.
5+ years of experience within the consulting industry.
Experienced with environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc.
Possess current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Supervisor certifications and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
Experience using ArcGIS and generating maps and report figures.
Excellent skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management.
Field work will be required, including oversight of subcontractors.
Ability to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
