JOB DESCRIPTION 

Position: School Mental Health Program Coordinator

Job Code:  7548

Department: Student Services

Number of Days Worked:  220 days Full Time At-Will Employee

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Immediate Supervisor:  Executive Director of Student Services

Staff Supervised:  School Mental Health program staff and clinicians

General Responsibilities: The School Mental Health Program Coordinator, in accordance with the ESU #3 policy and procedures, is responsible for overseeing all the operational and program activities of ESU #3’s school mental health program.  

Essential Requirements: 

  1. No history of child abuse or negligence.
  2. Master’s Degree and Nebraska Teaching Certificate (School Administration preferred); Mental health, counseling or other related degrees may be considered. 3 or more years in a leadership role required.         
  3. Successfully pass required background checks.
  4. Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment. 

Preferred Experiences, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Expertise in multi-tiered system of support in a school setting and school leadership
  2. Experience in the coordination and administration of school-based mental health service delivery programs 
  3. Trained in, or willing to be trained in evidence-based practices such as Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, QPR, etc.
  4. Coursework and professional experience that indicate knowledge of mental health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, diagnosis, and treatment of major mental disorders and/or psychological evaluation techniques
  5. Experience working with diverse populations
  6. Ability to work both independently and with limited supervision
  7. Expertise in grant management and grant writing
  8. Ability to work well with others and to provide both leadership and support to others on a team
  9. Skills in problem solving, crisis intervention, management, and time management
  10. Ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing
  11. Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Google, Microsoft Office, email, and online applications

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, supervise, coordinate, and manage the ESU #3 School Mental Health Program
  2. Assign specific duties and responsibilities and provide supervision to ESU #3 clinicians and other staff for the school mental health program, in accordance with their job descriptions
  3. Represent interests of the school mental health program with the organization’s administrative staff under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Services
  4. Collaborate with district and school staff to effectively support their multi-tiered system of support in the areas of social, emotional, and behavioral learning.  
  5. Oversee the implementation of programmatic and fiscal grant requirements including completing reports and submitting required data, as needed. 
  6. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including but not limited to HIPAA and FERPA
  7. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of mental health clinicians and other program staff.  
  8. Define, measure, and evaluate program performance data.
  9. Create continuous improvement based on performance data.
  10. Evaluate staff performance and identify areas of training needed. 
  11. Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to facilitate training for program staff and ESU #3 stakeholders
  12. Establish and maintain community partnerships
  13. Oversee financial sustainability, including management of health insurance billing
  14. Regularly audit student case files to:
    1. Ensure compliance with agency, program, and/or funding service delivery requirements
    2. Ensure the highest quality of documentation and data collection
    3. Monitor the service delivery process for all students
  15. Prepare and perform presentations on various mental health, MTSS and wellness topics 
  16. Advocate for students and families.
  17. Demonstrate professional conduct, maintain confidentiality and pursue professional growth.
  18. Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
  19. Communicate any concerns or needs to the Executive Director of Student Services.
  20. Provide own transportation to fulfill responsibilities of position.
  21. Dependable and reliable attendance.  The assigned duties of this position may allow consideration of occasional/infrequent remote work with the approval of the supervisor. Remote work is subject to the remote work guidelines and conditions outlined in the job description. The supervisor may withdraw the remote work option at any time.
  22. Other duties as assigned.


At Will Employment: Employment with ESU #3 is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice.  Employment with ESU #3 is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or inconsistent with those stated in this job description.  The terms of this job description may not be modified except in a writing signed by the ESU #3 CEO.
