We are hiring an Academic Advisor to help support the Heider College of Business’s Undergraduate Advising Office, whose primary aim is to implement the College’s support for undergraduate programs and students. In this role, you will advise and counsel students, typically in one-on-one sessions, on course selections, academic planning, major/minor/concentration selection, and questions about curriculum rules and other policies related to academic credit. This role also supports the effective functioning of the Undergraduate Advising Office to include support of and direct engagement with admissions, enrollment, and matriculation (e.g., Ratio Studiorum [RSP] and Summer Preview); co-curricular programming; graduation and commencement; student data analysis and reporting; and faculty advising training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a supporting advisor to undergraduate students, including:
    • Advise and counsel on course selections, academic planning, major/minor/concentration selection, and questions about curriculum rules and other policies related to academic credit. While advising typically occurs in one-on-one in-person sessions, such interactions may take the form of written correspondence, small group interaction, and large group presentations.
    • Support and, at times, partner with faculty advisors and faculty mentors to ensure an outstanding student advising experience, including seamless transitions to a new faculty advisor when a student declares a major.
  • Support the effective functioning of the College’s Undergraduate Advising Office, including:
    • Participate in admissions, enrollment, and matriculation efforts, including Admitted Student Events, Special Programs Day, Summer Preview, Ratio Studiorum (RSP), and meeting with prospective students and their families.
    • Provide administrative support for our flagship, co-curricular programming, including the Anna Tyler Waite Leadership Program, Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Responsibility, and the Career Portfolio Program.
    • Participate in undergraduate activities tied to Commencement weekend, including planning the Senior Recognition Ceremony, preparing programs and materials, and attending Commencement events.
    • Support collection, analysis, and reporting of student data.
    • Support activities to prepare faculty members for academic advising.
    • Maintain expertise on common student requests, including questions about academic policy, curriculum and degree requirements, registration, withdrawal, academic standing, academic honors, academic misconduct, transfer credits, transient study, and study abroad.
    • Coordinate with and, as needed, assist fellow personnel within the Undergraduate Advising Office to ensure support for undergraduate programs and students.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in business, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in business, education or related field required.
  • Preference for experience related to advising/counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
  • Organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze and report data.
  • Knowledge of technology and its use in academic programs, including online learning, learning management systems, student information systems, and essential office software.
  • Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education and the ability to promote and support these values.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of a Jesuit, Catholic university, including a commitment to social justice and service to others.
