Position: Data Analyst & Developer
Location: Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131
Reports To: IMS Technical Support Coordinator
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 day 12-month / Exempt
Salary Schedule: Specialist 4 - S04/92D, Starting salary: $91,030.36 per year
Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.
Position Purpose: The Omaha Public Schools (OPS) is seeking a Data Analyst & Developer with strong SQL and data processing skills. This position collaborates with customers and technical staff to develop applications, reports, and data sources using several tools, including K2, SSMS, SSIS, Tableau, and, to a lesser degree, .NET. This position will 1) be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and delivering high-performance and low-latency applications and data solutions, 2) contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle, 3) write well-designed, testable, efficient code and ensure designs are in compliance with user specifications, 4) prepare and produce releases of software component, and 5) support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for review.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Gather end-user requirements and create data design documents for approval
- Code and maintain stored procedures, data movement/population, data clean up, data accuracy, and new functionality
- Develop ETLs (SSIS development)
- Code and maintain web applications using .NET and K2.
- Develop test plans and documents for unit and end-user testing
- Document critical processes, repeatable processes, work requests, and instructions for technical support or end users, and stored procedures
- Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations
- Escalate problems to the Team Lead and, as appropriate to IT management
- Investigate and assist with problem resolution
- Analyze and evaluate performance problems
- Establish strong standards of professional ethics when relating to staff, students, parents, administration, and the community
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Complies with the District’s operational guidelines
- Keeps abreast of technology developments relating to current trends/issues and education needs (such as training, reading literature, participating in professional organizations)
- Provide technical assistance and training to staff as necessary; willingness to share knowledge with others
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited local travel may be required.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- For schools and district departments to operate effectively, employees must perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years of coding advanced SQL queries
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including writing complex queries, scripts, and jobs
- Proficiency with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
- Demonstrated ability to follow a development methodology that includes discovery & analysis, designing, developing & testing, and delivery & support maintenance
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) phases and their relationship with Database Development Life Cycle (DDLC) activities such as database and file design standards, database requirements analysis, requirements determination for the database system (data volume, reliability, performance), requirements determination for system architecture (security, access, recovery), database creation & data population, database system testing, and database maintenance
- Advanced experience using strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Experience with stored procedures, views, indexes, foreign keys, etc.
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, DevOps Team Foundation Server (TFS), Office Suite versions, Visio, Project, etc.
- Licensed in good standing and able to travel (drive) throughout the District
- Knowledge of Infinite Campus student software is a plus
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft is a plus
- Ability to conduct analysis (plan, organize, problem-solve, and think abstractly/ conceptually) in an educational environment

- Understanding of .NET development, with the ability to debug and test existing applications (especially in .NET 8)
- Familiarity with C#, JavaScript, and web hosting concepts such as IIS
- Ability to translate customer requests into comprehensive technical requirement documents
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Develop and execute a rigorous test plan for all development, data changes and data analysis
- Independently follow tasks through to completion and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently or with a team to research and solve critical issues
- Strong communication skills enabling the ability to convey accurate and timely information – verbally and written
- Willingness to comply with District, local, state, and federal laws and standards
- Ability to understand technical manuals and procedural documentation as well as keep documentation up-to-date
- Ability to thoroughly document development work efforts (both new and existing)
- Ability to work through difficult issues and maintain a positive attitude when communicating with others
- Ability to work hours outside of normal schedule with little or no advance notification
- Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with staff members in a multicultural urban setting
Terms of Employment:
This position is treated as a full-time, exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
