Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and proper operation of all equipment associated with utility plant and distribution system serving the UNMC/Neb Med campus. Starts, operates, and shuts down boilers and their auxiliaries, chillers and their auxiliaries, generators and their auxiliaries, and all other necessary plant equipment from a central control room. Responsible for the for the operation and monitoring of the 13.8 KV and 5KV electrical distribution system serving the UNMC/Neb Med campus. Directs the activities and provides training to the Utility Operator I. Performs preventative and routine maintenance as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High School education or GED
2 years experience in operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and related equipment to include fundamental knowledge of industrial plant chilled water, steam, and electrical systems.
Valid motor vehicle operator's license
Valid City of Omaha 3rd, 2nd, or 1st Grade Stationary Engineer license

Will consider two years post high school education in a related vocational technical trade program/related experience.

Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings and layouts
Demonstrated mechanical and operational aptitude
Demonstrated ability to operate industrial or commercial control systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant coursework/specialized training with a technical school, trade school, community college, apprenticeship program, and/or related education program.
May be required to wear a respirator.
