About the Role:

Join our team and play a key role in upgrading critical water infrastructure! As a Senior Water Pipeline Design Engineer, you'll take the lead in planning, designing, and delivering water pipeline replacements as part of the Main Replacement Program with the largest water utility in California. Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and implementation of water pipeline replacement projects, ensuring they meet technical, regulatory, and environmental standards.

Collaborate with internal teams and public agencies to assess infrastructure challenges and develop innovative solutions.

Conduct research on existing infrastructure using maps, drawings, databases, and field investigations.

Perform advanced engineering calculations to support design, cost estimation, and lifecycle assessments

Develop and review project documentation, including Requests for Bids, Proposals, and Qualifications. Evaluate contractor bids and select the best fit for each project.

Mentor and guide junior engineers, technicians, and interns, providing technical expertise and support.

Present project plans and updates to stakeholders, including local agencies and community groups.

Ensure project safety and compliance, creating safety documentation and conducting risk assessments.

Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, helping to refine company policies, procedures, and technical standards.

Coordinate permitting and project scheduling with various districts and agencies.


Work Model & On-Site Requirements:

This role is primarily hybrid at the San Jose office, with flexibility for occasional remote work.

Travel to project sites as needed, estimated 0% to 20% of the time.


What We're Looking For:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.

An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate may be considered equivalent to a degree.

Valid California Class C Driver's License.


Experience and Skills:

Advanced-level engineering experience with a strong understanding of pipeline design and infrastructure projects.

Ability to lead projects independently, make data-driven decisions, and solve complex engineering challenges.

Strong communication skills-able to present technical information to diverse audiences and collaborate effectively with teams and agencies.

Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with experience in technical calculations and cost assessments.

Familiarity with permitting processes, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.

Proficiency in pipeline design software (such ase AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoWater, Cesar, AutoPipe, and similar software).

Strong understanding of hydraulics, pipe materials, pressure ratings, and design standards (AWWA, ASCE, ASTM, etc.).

Experience with GIS mapping tools (ArcGIS) and integration with pipeline asset management systems.

Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with in-office and field teams.


Certifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license in California or EIT (Required)

Certified Water Professional (CWP) or equivalent (Preferred)

GIS or Asset Management Certification (Preferred)


Compensation:

Salary Range: $165,000 - $255,000

Benefit amounts for 2025:

Employee only: $6,600 ($550 per month)

Employee plus one: $10,320 ($860 per month)

Employee plus family: $14,040 ($1,170 per month)

All plans may carryover up to $5,000 to the next year


Retirement Savings Plan:

401K program with safe-harbor company matching contributions dollar-for-dollar up to 6% of employee contributions.

401K program custodian with a history of high-performing funds.

Discretionary supplemental match each year.


PTO (Paid Time Off)

Holidays: Paid holidays for full-time employees, averaging 11 days per year, following utility holiday schedules.

Sick time: 40 hours per year accrued on a bi-weekly basis, carryover allowed to next year.

Vacation pay: accrued on a bi-weekly basis, carryover allowed to the next year.

Vacation accrual details based on years of employment with our firm:

0-2 years: 2 weeks or 80 hours per year

3-4 years: 3 weeks or 120 hours per year

5+ years: 4 weeks or 160 hours per year
